England - Peak District to Yorkshire Dales

The Lyme Cage walk takes you to the high point on the estate. It was originally built in 1580 as a hunting lodge so the ladies could admire the gentlemen hunting deer on the surrounding slopes.  It later became a game keeper's residence then a poachers' prison. The original tower was demolished and rebuilt as you see here in the mid 1700s.
